The enzymes (bromine I think) in pineapple can induce labour - however you have to eat the equivalent of 8 whole fresh pineapples in one go to get enough of the enzyme needed! Even then - it's not a guarantee so is not the most effective way to do it! Plus you have to already have a 'ripe' cervix for it to have any affect!Good luck

Be careful when eating a lot of pineapple. If you eat too much, you could end up spending a lot of time in the bathroom. Pineapple is a natural laxative. There isn't enough ingredients in a pineapple to start contractions. You would need to eat at least 7 or more whole pineapples and then you still wouldn't get any further than you already are. Good Luck!!!!

It's because of the enzymes.
I have a friend who swears by it. She drunk a carton of pineapple juice and went into labour the next day - 2 weeks early with her first. Maybe it was just a conincidence!
Such fruits have traditionally been used in the Caribbean for many years to induce labour.

fresh pineapple has an enzyme called bromine just under the skin, this helps to soften the cervix and therefor bring on labour... however you have to eat at least 8 whole pineapples for it to start to take effect and your cervix would have to be ready to start labour
eating too many pineapples in one go can have many bad side effects such as a laxative effect, a skin rash or heartburn.... not advisable to do that one!!

I know for a fact that drinking a few tea spoons of Castor oil in milk helps bring on labour. It helped my cousin and sister go into labour eg, after 2 hours of drinking it my sister went in to labour and it took 5 hours for it to work on my cousin.

"Pineapple is said to induce labor as well. Pineapple, as well as papaya and mango, contain a proteolytic enzyme called bromelain. When bromelain is consumed with meals, it assists in the digestion of proteins. When taken on an empty stomach, bromelain acts medicinally as an anti-inflammatory agent. Therefore, naturopathic medicine uses this enzyme to reduce pain and swelling. "

That sounds like another old wives tale. Walking can help progress your labor if you're in beginning stages of labor already but I found it to be exhausting and of little assistance to me. You can try doing wide hip circles to help the baby descend and engage in the pelvis and then do squats to help start your labor. Best of luck.
