they call maths 'math' because it's a shortened version of 'mathematics' if anything, their shortened down version of the word makes more sense than ours does ! doesn't annoy me - live and let live, it's not harming anyone !

Well this is the Video Game section but I guess I can answer this non-related question. We say math because in America we speak Americanized English. Same reason the Spanish in Spain and Mexico and Cuba and other Spanish speaking countries vary. It shouldn't bother you at all. Each country has it's own version of any given language that it speaks. You cannot expect us to speak as they do in the UK. After all we don't live there so we learn to speak in the fashion of the country we live in just like everyone else. If you had to listen to the slang we use on the regular I bet we would not only annoy you but drive you insane.

As the great man Winston Churchill said" Two countries divided by a common language". What I would say in defence of the Americans is that they freshen the language up a bit, imagine if we were still stuck with BBC English from the forties or fifties.

Linguistic convention. How is "maths" plural? are you able to've only one math? Do you assert "Maths is relaxing" or "Maths are relaxing"? we are saying "arithmetic is my famous undertaking" or "Math is my famous undertaking." a minimum of for the reason that around 1900. "will this infectious bastardisation (be conscious the "s") of our stylish discourse on no account end?!" in all probability no longer. you need to in all probability play it risk-free and turn to Scots to maintain the splendor of your discourse.
