All the abbreviations and such have become a habit to most of us. (I've been known to use them myself.) I think it's sad to see so many kids in school spelling words incorrectly, incorrect punctuation, etc. because they carry these habits away from cyberspace.

On the other hand, when there is a movie called "The Pursuit of Happyness", that doesn't help spelling, either.

Part of the issues lies with using alpha-numeric contractions.
w8. ou812. and the such. We've also fallen into the habit of spelling things how they sound instead of how they are actually spelled, this can change the meaning of something entirely. Getting to the physicality of it......we interact so much online that some people can NOT function in a face to face situation.

It's contributed to improper use of grammar and spelling, along with the abuse of abbreviations and little "smilies" (I think that's what they're called - e.g., ":)" is a smile).
