Some types of Stainless steel are magnetic and some types are not - it depends on the phase of the material.
Stainless steel comes in different grades;
Personally I use the Japanese grading system, but there are many different systems to name and grade steels.
For example I know off the top of my head that stainless steel grade SUS430 is magnetic because it is ferritic. This is your bog - standard stainless used for every day things.
I know also that SUS304 is not magnetic as it us austenitic.
This is a more expensive grade of steel and is used for surgical tools and things in contact with food.
The phase of the steel - in laymans terms - is the arrangement of the chemical elements. Stainless Steels are made up of different elements - Iron (Fe), Chromium (Cr), Carbon (C), Magnesium (Mg), Nickel (Ni) and some more too. The amount and arrangement of the different 'ingredients' of the steel are what dictate the steels properties - strength, elasticity, magnetism, etc, etc,
Is stainless steel magnetic? Yes - but not always.

Yes, stainless steel is magnetic it contains magnetic forms of steel mainly carbon steel, the amount will determine the magnetic capability's.
Try this obtain a length of SS tubing (about 2 - 3 feet) get a rare earth super magnet hold the tubing vertical and drop the magnet thru the tube, you will hear the magnet falling but it will be in contact with the tube, make sure the tube is about 50% larger than the magnet. To show the difference also have a ball bearing the size of the magnet to drop, this will show a difference in speed.

No ..not to my SS fridge and magnets won't stick !
But, in general could be, the magnetic properties of stainless steel are dependent on the elements added into the alloy, and specifically the addition of nickel can change the structure from magnetic to non-magnetic.

Magnetic response is determined by the stable phase(s) at room temperature
Austenitic and Super Austenitic steels are non magnetic
All other grades have a magnetic response - Ferritic, Martensitic, Precipitation Hardened, Duplex and Super Duplex
A magnetic response can be induced in austenitic grades 304 types by cold work

Stainless steel is an alloy of iron and carbon .So it is a magnetic substance .It can be magnetised by electric current and is more useful as an electromagnet than Iron because it has tendency to loose its magnetism instantly on removal of current .

All steel is magnetic as it contains iron. It is called stainless simply because of the process it undergoes to prevent it from rusting.

yes because it has iron in it and the rest of the elements are nickel, niobium, molybdenum, and titanium.
Nickel, molybdenum, niobium, and chromium enhance the corrosion resistance of stainless steel.
