Whether it's illegal or not, it's most unwise. It's like bringing an Israeli flag to Iran or Lebanon or a Swastika flag (flag of Germany 1933-1945) to Israel. It will be viewed as confrontational.

To test the analogy closer to home, carry a Confederate flag while walking down the street in a black neighborhood in your city sometime this week. You'll see exactly what I'm trying to say to you!

P.S. Another test: Carry a current Vietnamese flag (former "North Vietnamese" flag. Red field with a gold star) down the streets of Little Saigon or any Vietnamese-American shopping area in the US. Experience the reactions. Those will be the same reactions in Vietnam when you bring the former South Vietnam's flag there (the one with the yellow field and three red stripes). I'm really concerned about your safety if you keep thinking that way!

You'd be accused of reactionary and counter-revolutionary and may face a firing squad or worse off, you'd be made listen to traditional Vietnamese music for the whole week. Seriously, don't do that; they'd put you on the next plane out of Vietnam and you'd waste your money and time.

The communist will hunt you down. I think you should be free to bring what ever you want, especially if it flags. But for this situation dont because they can put u in jail.

10 years ago you may have had a problem but i think it would be ok today. i see american flags on everything from clothing to motor bikes all over viet nam... nobody seem to worry about that much.. in fact i would feel far more comfortable flying an american flag in viet nam than a vietnamese flag in america... dont believe all that evil stuff people say about the communist.. they tolerate a lot more than i would have expected... dont act like a jerk though... wherever you go.

Do it for Sparta. If 300 can fight to their deaths for freedom, one man can hold a flag to honor the dead.
