I'm thinking about Playstation 3's, iPhones, etc.

All these things which come out in say, Asia or the USA first, then one by one go to each other continent by the quarter...

Why not just a worldwide release?!

Maximization of Profit/Revenue (same reason they have Regional Encoding).

Also to comply with local Laws (eg. to sell in France, the paperwork etc. must all be translated into French - this takes time & money).

because it takes a while for different countries to hear about those products and they also need to see how well it does because if it doesnt work its just a waste of money.
