The term "high maintenance" can mean a lot of things, some good and some bad. The first time I remember hearing the term was in When Harry Met Sally. High maintenance implies being overly picky and in need of attention. Here are the top 10 sides to tell if a wife/girlfriend is high maintenance:

1. She needs to be in control
2. She's socially inept
3. She's difficult to please
4. She doesn't know the definition of sacrifice
5. She's not comfortable with herself
6. Bills, bills, bills
7. She has irrational demands
8. Going out is like the countdown to eternity
9. She's daddy's girl
10. She's unfair

On the other hand, it could be a good-natured joke. How good is that "friend" of yours?

Hey, if YOU are footing the bills then you go ahead and do what you like!!!
Everyone has different things they like to spend money on, and if your 'thing' happens to be yourself then why not!!!
It would be different if you were making someone else foot the bill for your 'maintenance' ....but you aren't so there is nothing wrong with it!!!

I'm very "low maintenance" but I admire those who take a lot of care in their personal appearance...and am sometimes a little envious.

Be "high maintenance" and proud!!!

There is nothing wrong with that as long as you don't lose sight of the important things in life such as friends and family and not concentrate on the material things too much. You can't take it with you but if you are loved then you will be missed when you are gone . It would be a crying shame if the only thing people could say about you at your funeral was " She had a lot of shoes"!

I'd say it's none of their busniess as long as you are able to pay for what you want and it won't hurt your back account.
High Maintenance just means you won't settle for anything, that has it's positives as well as it's negatives..

Could mean that you are too whinny. Or that you require too much positive strokes from others. It's not so much about good taste but about how you drain others to get what you want or need. Isn't always about money.

Well, it's not entirely about the money.

Requiring constant attention is also considered high maintenance.

There's nothing wrong with it, they just don't understand living like that. Enjoy your life and stop worrying of what others think. I know it's hard, but that's how to really enjoy your life.
