Well, this past summer I found a wallet on the road. I could see bills poking out of it so I returned it to the local police detachment without even looking into the wallet. The officer said he had to count out the money in front of me and did. There was close to three hundred bucks in there and many credit cards. I would've returned it regardless.
Well, later that night this sweet little old lady comes to my door with a dozen roses and a pizza gift certificate. She was actually crying she was so grateful. I wasn't expecting a reward, I didn't even want a thank you, but seeing her so happy was really uplifting.

I have been in similar situations. This year at school i found $30 lying in the hallway. I gave it to the office and after about a week, they gave it to me because no one came to claim it.
If i found this billfold i would give it to the person. If they lived near, i would take it to them personally. They mgiht even reward you with some cash. But i would not be arrogant and expect to recieve the cash. :)

well of course human nature is you'd want to keep the money. But think of this, how do you know that person wasn't a murder victim (hey it happens!) or got mugged and the mugger dropped the wallet or something. You don't want to be left with that wallet and its contents in case the police tie you to the crime. Return the wallet just as you found it. This actually happened to my husband, he found a wallet with money in it, he spent the money (he was foolish and young) and returned the wallet with its stuff in it to the owner. The owner was so grateful he rewarded my husband! So he got the money and was rewarded. LOL

My friend found a wallet at Wal-Mart. He got a call his brother was in open heart surgery, then he himself fell sick and was in the hosiptol for a week. He forgot about the wallet that he found and put in his glove box. Wal-Mart seen the video, his sister worked there. The police asked him for it. He said yea its in my glove box. Next month he's arrested for class C felony. Guy said he had $760 not $575 and a $150 gift card missing.

I would call the person or mail it back to them. I've lost things and I wish people had notified me instead of using my credit cards. It's just the right thing to do. That's what is wrong with society, how do we know that's not all the money that person has in their life.

I'd return it. I know one person who wouldn't return it, the slimeball who found an envelope my wife dropped last year with $900.00 in cash in it. They didn't even return the empty envelope.

It's good Karma to return it. Who knows the person who lost may really really need that money, it may be all they have. Take it to their house and return it.

Return it of course. It's not mine to keep. If there was no identification in it, I would take it to the police station.
