It seem redundant to have a land line if you have a cell. It would be great if I could have DSL without one. Being a TECHNO-DUMMIE AGING BOOMER; please be kind & don't laugh at me (just with me).

ADSL works on the phone line by replacing the Subscriber Loop Carrier(SLC) circuit pack with a DSLAM -Digital Subscriber Line Access Module, and phone service is a part of DSL, since the digital aspects of the broadband service are modulated within the -48v carrier, and that cant be removed, but you dont have to use it, but since its there and local calls are free, kinda makes sense!

Yes. I have qwest DSL and sprint cell phones and no house phone.
I guess I still have a land line but I do not have a monthly phone bill-just the DSL bill

No, to run DSL you have to have a land line, now if you have cable see if they offer internet connections if so then you can get rid of your landline.

I too use only a cel as my "everything" phone. I only use the land line for my computer. Speak with your provider to make accomadations.

According to virginmedia website if you are in a cable area you do not need a landline:

"Depending on where you live, there are two ways to get Virgin Broadband:

By fibre optic cable (on cable)
Or down your phoneline (non-cable) "
