If you're talking about Birmingham, Alabama, here's my shot:
1) The Garages -- GQ Magazine named it one of ten bars in the world worth a special plane trip.
2) The Nick -- Practically a required destination for up-and-coming bands on tour
3) WorkPlay -- Amazing bands, not to mention a killer martini bar.
4) Zydeco -- Great place for music, plus a cool veranda to watch the world go by.
5) Cafe Bottega -- Seriously attractive women
6) Blue Monkey -- A true martini bar. If you can't go home with somebody after a night here, then you should consider plastic surgery, better manners, or an industrial-strength breath mint
7) Bellbottoms -- Great for dancing
8) The Break -- For playing billiards and the like.
9) Hippodrum -- Good, laid back place
10) Joe Bar. Barking Kudu. Oasis. Etc. Too many good places to name, really.

Birmingham is a rubbish place to go out. Everywhere is full of drunk idiots and crap music. The bars and clubs have no style or atmosphere. It's all really generic.
