Least time I checked Gabe Kaplan (Mr. Kotter) was white. Does this make any sense? If the Cosby show is ever remade do you think that Eminem would be placed in the title role so famously created by Bill Cosby? While Welcome Back Kotter does not have the same notoriety as The Cosby Show it does hold a significant position in television history for the way it looked at some cultural and social issues, part of which was because Kotter was white and his students were a diverse mix of races. Of course this theme has since been tackled ad nauseum since then with sub-par movies like Freedom Writers and Dangerous Minds. None, however, have been able to do it with the charm or humor that the original television series had.

Oh, and if they re-do the theme song heads will roll. It is regarded as one of the most famous and well done intro songs in television history and it would be an absolute shame for it to be modernized for the sake of making a few bucks.

I agree 100% with you.
I mean they always have to change things from the original.
Mr. Kotter was a white man so he shouldn't be portrayed in the up coming movie and a black man.
I mean they always have to mess things up. I mean I am sure that if we remade Big Momma's House and placed a white man in the main character they would say the same thing.

While you're right about the diverse mix of races in the students on the show, Kotter's race wasn't as much an issue, and shouldn't be; he was simply a local boy who had come back to the school he had once gone to, to teach. I agree with you about the theme song though; if they make a hip-hop version, or something like that, I'll be very disappointed.

I'm with you on this one. I like Cube, but Mr. Kotter should be a white guy. It will probably be like that lame Honeymooners movie they made with Cedric the Entertainer.

I agree! First of all, you can't improve on perfection. Secondly, changing the ethnicity of a character does not work or make any sense. Someone is just trying to make easy money. The movie versions of "The Wild, Wild West" and "The Honeymooners" prove my theory.

Its not fair, and won't do well in the theatre's. Look at the Honeymooner's movie. It just wasnt the same. Unless they are going the Dukes of Hazzard route and completely changing the premise.
