I went on a field trip with my daughter's class yesterday. While we were eating our bag lunches, one little girl I noticed ate, in this order, a bag of jelly beans and two peanut butter crackers, and then threw out the apple her mother packed for her. It wasn't even my daughter, but it just bugged me.

Yes it would bother me. I find it actually heart breaking that the parents haven't taught them proper eating habits. During a field trip if the parents are not present, I feel that the teachers carry the responsibility to ensure the child is eating healthier by reminding the children to eat their main course first, then the fruits, then save the candy for last. My personal opinion. Whenever I sent my daughter with a bag lunch I would make her put everything back into the bag that was eaten or uneaten...if it was an apple, I want to see the core. Some may think that is obsessive, but at least I knew what my daughter was or was not eating and made sure she knew the importance of a healthy diet.

Why? Did you want the apple? Seriously, it would make me sad for a second or two that she wasn't raised to make healthy choices. Then I'd be happy that my own daughter ate the apple I packed. Or did she????

It may bother me, was there no other items inside the lunch bag? Good thing you can go on field trips w/your daughter, the days go so quickly.

well, yes, that would bother me, but what can you do. I think you would get in a lot of trouble if you force fed the apple to the girl. If she chooses to be unhealthy and not trade with other students, that's her fault. Oh well, life is good, just forget about her. God bless.

first of all her mother should pack her a sandwich of something more healthy than peanut butter cookies and jelly beans

It would bug me, my kids know that they have to eat their healthy food first. My son loves healthier snacks anyway.
Today he wanted strawberries for his snack instead of chips.

That is exactly why I do not send any treats with my kids to school. The snacks that they get are fruit cocktail and a muffin.
