Captain America had surrendered to Shield because he didn't want anymore innocents getting hurt because of the war between registered heroes and those who chose to fight the registration act, while he was in custody he was diverted from being arraigned at a federal prison to a New York court house by the Red Skull's influence to get Captain America to an unsecure location. As he was being lead to the courthouse he spotted a sniper taking aim at one of the guards that was taking him to court. In an attempt to save the guard Cap gets shot in the shoulder. As the confusion starts Winter Solder(aka bucky) goes after the shooter, when he gets there he finds that the shooter has already left and as he starts out after the shooter the Black Falcon swoops in and assumes that Winter solder was the shooter, after a quick review of a secuity video they track down the shooter as he tries to flee the shooter turns out to be crossbones hired by the Red Skull to take Cap out. After they capture crossbones a female shield agent rushes in to check on Cap only to find out that he is bleeding from his chest as well, On the way to the hospital he is pronounced dead and as the female shield agent is replaying the events in her mind she sees herself shooting Cap in the chest 3 times at point blank range it turns out that she was under the influence of one of the Red Skull's agents called SIN, the book ends with the shield agent crying at Cap's bedside and she says "My God what have I done"........I really don't think that after reading the story that Cap will stay dead for long.

It wil be a little hard if you didn't read Civil War but here I go.

A city block was destroyed buy a team of b-list superheroes so laws go into effect that all superheroes need to have licenses and training. There was a split in the advengers over this. Capt. was on the anti-license side and Iron Man was for it. After a rather destuctive series of skirmishes. Capt comes very close to killing Iron Man but walks a away after the civilans show him the damage he has done so he walks a way. S.H.E.L.D ends up catching him. While he is being transported a sniper kills him. The sniper is not known yet.

In the 2006 Civil War crossover, Captain America opposes mandatory federal registration of all super-powered beings and leads the Anti-Registration faction and resistance movement. He becomes a fugitive and opposes the heroes of the Pro-Registration movement, including his former friend Iron Man. He adopts the alias "Brett Hendrick", a mall security guard, to avoid government detection. As the War continues, Rogers becomes more and more extreme in his desire to win, including allowing the Punisher to join his "Secret Avengers," (though he does not condone the man's willingness to kill) and working (albeit reluctantly) with the Kingpin. At the climax of a battle between Registration and resistance proponants, realizing that his fight against the Registration Act is endangering civilians, he removes and drops his mask, surrendering as Steve Rogers. He orders the anti-Registration forces to stand down. As Captain America is led away, the Punisher picks up the discarded mask.

Following his surrender, Steve Rogers is indicted of several criminal charges, and while entering a Federal Courthouse he is shot through the back by a sniper. In the crowd chaos that ensues, he is wounded an additional three times by gunshots to the stomach and chest. He is declared DOA after being taken to a hospital.

Orchestrated by the Red Skull, the assassination involves Crossbones deployed as a sniper. In addition, Dr. Faustus, posing as a S.H.I.E.L.D. psychiatrist, has manipulated Sharon Carter and implanted in her mind a hypnotic suggestion that she believes caused her to shoot Rogers at the crucial moment.

Hope you got your answer perfectly.
