If I get my girlfriend a puppy, will it shut her up about wanting a baby? And if so, how long have I got before she starts getting broody again?

The real issue here is communication! Instead of asking Yahoo Answers this question, go talk to your girlfriend and tell her your not ready to have children just yet and it's not selfish of you to not want kids! I hate it when people say that men are selfish for not wanting children. Men have opinions and rights just as women do! If one person in the relationship doesn't want kids, it's their right not to! But if she wants one so bad and you don't ever want one, thats a recipe for a doomed relationship imo. Now if you DO want some one day but not right now than you need to talk openly with her and tell her how you feel and if she can't respect the fact that your not ready than maybe she isn't the one for you after all! Getting her a pet isn't going to change a thing!

from a womans point of view i seriously doubt you should get her a puppy...
it WILL NOT shut her up and when she decides to stop taking the pill or woteva you are going to have to support not only a baby, but also a puppy, which would be a bigger puppy by then...
think twice
ps why dont you want a baby with this girl, if you think it is a suitable acceptable answer you should have no problem telling her, but you gotta tell her

Until someone close to her has a baby or she sees someone with one. But the puppy should console her and give her the love she needs for a while and comfort her when she can't have a baby yet.

I think it will shut her up cuz I want a dog cuz I don't want any kids at the moment... and the puppy will do, all she wants is something to love her and play with, well that is my reasoning for wanting a kid...

About 12 months 'til the puppy grows up then she'll need 'babyness' around the house again!!

I don't know if that will work for sure
If she ends up being one of those people who are so into their dogs and buys bags for it to sit it and clothing for it and calls it her baby than for sure it will work but will you still want to be with her if that is what she turns in to?

...not a great idea...get her a kitten...I know someone who has had dogs as "babies"...and treated them as such...she put one to sleep cos it got totally out of HER control and she fancied a new one...this one is the same...
