i, myself do not have very dark skin but would wish for it to be a few shades lighter. i am not keen on putting honey on my face as its too sticky and messy. should i opt for applying cucumber and lemon juice instead? my skin is dry/normal. and also.. can this be left on my face overnight for more powerful results?

Use a pack consisting of cucumber juice, lemon juice and some rose water or you can also try a mask with honey and lemon juice. These masks have to be used for some time, at least for a week for noticeable results. You can find more cost effective and natural home remedies for making your skin fair at the link provided.

Lemon juice is very acidic. In combination with your dry skin, I think this will make your skin very flaky and problematic, ********* the moisture from it and possibly inflaming it.

The best solution, as people have mentioned above, is to stay out of the sun and wear a high SPF moisturiser every day. This really will make a difference if keep it up.

Yes, apply cucumber juice instead of honey. However, if you want to leave it on overnight you could try applying only cucumber juice without lemon juice at night.

I am saddened that you would have a complex because of not having a lighter skin. In the western world Indians are discriminated against because of having darker skin (and trust me however fair you are by Indian stds you will be dark in the Western world). So it makes it reprehensible that Indians themselves take the same attitude.
Why do you want a fairer skin? Why do you perpetuate this abhorrent practice?

Avoid sun by all means- not to become darker but to avoid getting malignant melanomas.

My daughter was told by a servant maid during our annual trip to India to stay out of the sun because it would make her dark. Now that we are back in the US, I am having a terrible time convincing her that dark is OK.

Please, please get out of this mode of thinking and all you guys and gals giving this person advice about lightening dark skin- please cease and desist!

Stay out of the sun. Nothing can be done to make you lighter. That is the color you were born with.
