Is it anyones fault to be Stupid?

Question

In an answer I saw to another question, somebody suggested that it is the fault of Stupid people that they do stupid things.
Is it their fault?

This is not a Sexist question, I am well aware that most men are not thugs, and that women can be nasty as well.

It depends. If what you mean by stupid is "doesn't reason well" then no, it's not anyone's fault because we don't get to choose what our IQ is.

If what you mean by stupid is "doesn't know the things that everybody else learned in school because he/she didn't make the effort" then it may be partly the person's fault. But both IQ and conscientiousness determine how much we can learn, and both are heritable traits (and IQ is very strongly genetically-determined).

I think we use the term "stupid" too loosely these days. The term means slow of mental understanding or mentally sluggish. Its my feeling that a lot of the questions (and some answers) are not fully thought out before posting them. In some cases its simply the verb-age used, which could be dictated by the person's background or location. If , for instance, you don't know the meaning of the word interloper, you're not stupid, you are uneducated (either formally or informally). I will agree that there are are a lot of inane, silly, rude and intrusive questions posted. But then that's not fair of me either since lots of people really are looking for an answer, even if it does sound "stupid". But that's just my opinion. We've all got them.

Well obviously if your a stupid person your gunna do stupid things. (the key word is stupid!) But it's kinda not there fault tho.. Not if it's in there personality and genes if you like. Just the past biting back up at people.. i mean anyone can have there stupid and clumsy moments sumimes right..

Some people are born stupid. They don't seem to be able to think sensibly. It is not their fault, it's a personality defect.

Although they can not be blamed for being stupid they are still responsible for their actions.

im not stupid but do stupid things all the time, only the other night i wanted toast so i got some bread stuck it in the toaster then the phone rang so i answered it a few minutes later went back to get my toast and it was gone, so i moaned at my girlfriend for eating it who swore she hadn't, so in go two more pieces of bread they pop up ready so i go to the fridge to get some butter and what do i find two pieces of bread layed neatly on the shelf in the fridge, i dont remember putting them in there!!! never did own upto it though

Some people arent stupid they are just uneducated and need a bit of guidance however, there are some really stupid people out there and while I have a bit of sympathy for them I end up losing patience eventually if they dont help themselves

Sometimes I choose to say something stupid but I dont know if I am stupid. All I know is that if I knew less than I do, I'd probably be happier.

Sometimes people aren't given the opportunities to be educated as well as others. So I say no it is not. What about these third world countries?

a number of of the failings like the tub seats, walkers and Bumbo's are recalled so the producer can positioned labels on them to warn different mum and dad to precise supervise the toddler whilst the product is getting used. they are no longer being recalled on no account to be released back in order that as that they are able to have warning labels positioned on them.
