For gaming with a console, the going is somewhat easier than on PCs. With PCs you have attacks to deal with, but with console gaming, you have only the game, 4meg should be dandy but make sure to check that the up speed is close to 1meg too if you want it seamless. If your up and down speeds are any more than these then you're looking at your games predicting what you want them to do.

the isp usually advertises downloaded speeds...this is fine and dandy especially at 8mb down...but you should find out what the pairing upload would be with that 8mb down. For gaming, up speed is as important if not more so that down speed...so fastest is best. If you can get 8mb down and at LEAST 512 up you should be ok. Anything faster than that would be gravy!

For general surfing 1meg will be fine, for on line gaming the faster the better 2meg should work though but you are likely to need to upgrade this as games get more resource demanding

Don't waste your money on a PS3...get an XBOX 360, save a little, and enjoy equal or better quality

I'd say 4mg, if your gonna be gaming or you might get some lagging on the game play. maybe get away with 2mg.
