a "government of the people, by the people, and for the people"

Please don't respond with liberal and conservative diatribes. We've all been there, and done that.

Do we need to change the voting procedure, do we need to demand accountability from our elected, and other public officlals. And if so, how do we do that?

I have no personal agenda to promote, I'm looking for real ideas, not rhetoric.

Have at it.

If you want by & of the people which i do then you must amend the Republic of right out of the constitution. Replace it with a direct true consensus democracy! Which enables the legal citizen majority to have ultimate rule & control by majority rule! Any inteligent American wouldn't have it any other way! Those who are in tune with the way things are now will oppose it! But if you notice thats is why few have all the wealth & the majority get scraps or nothing!

1) Get rid of electronic voting machines. Keep paper trails.

2) Tear down the 'liberal' vs. 'conservative' fake polarity by using accurate labels, as there are more than two sides to every story. There are many kinds of conservatives, just like there are many kinds of liberals, and people are liberal/conservative about different issues.

3) Make Republicans realize that they shouldn't vote for just any Republican candidate regardless of who the opponent is. Make the Democrats realize the same thing. Make both groups realize that both parties are controlled at the top and share the same agenda, and that this agenda is not in the interest of the American public.

4) Once all that has been realized, gather around presidential candidate Ron Paul (R) in 2008. He is your last hope. Make him your president, and things will soon change for the better. It's either Ron Paul in 2008, or full-grown police state by 2012. Mr. Paul has a flawless voting-record in congress, he never votes for anything that violates the constitution and you always know where he stands on the issues. He will restore the constitution (abolish the Patriot Act etc.), he will fight against the Federal Reserve Act of 1913 and he will bring an end to the illegal occupation of Iraq. Basically, he is ready to fight the 'shadow government', which is something nobody has done since John F. Kennedy.

5) Don't let anyone pull a 'JFK' on Ron Paul if he gets elected.

Ben Franklin said it best "Secrecy is the number one enemy of Freedom". Our government needs to be open no secrets then the populous can elect the right people to run the government. Today the way things are with the lies, and spinning no one knows the truth so it impossible to make intelligent choices.

Less corporate involvement in political campaigns by severely capping campaign contributions. All of these contributions are creating a Washington whereby those with the biggest wallets get to decide domestic and international policy.

Get involved - too much of the population in the US are not interested in change. I see this starting to change, but not enough. How many of you have been to your local city council meetings recently?

We're a representative republic. Not a democracy.
