Buy a bottle of "Lestoil" and add about a cup per washload. It will remove the smell and the grease/oil. It's strong smelling but, when you dry the clothes, the smell goes away.
My husband works with heavy machinery and this works wonderfully on his clothes.

My husband drives truck and is always coming home off the road with clothes that have fuel or grease on them.Sometimes he`s gone anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks and he has let them marinade in a plastic bag, ewwww. If your washer has a soak cycle on it put the clothes in that add a can of coke a little dawn dish soap and some baking soda and then add the hottest water you can. I generally let this soak for an hour if at all possible. If you add laundry soap to it you might have to run the machine twice just to get all the soap out of the clothes. If possible hang the clothes outside to dry.

You can use a few things, well since you have already laundered your husbands clothes, I can not suggest using chalk to absorb the oil, so to remove the smell I can suggest White Vinegar to your rinse water you add about 1 cup and allow to soak for one hour then rinse, then put your clothes through a normal wash cycle, this should remove the oil odor, if not you can treat it with WD-40 brand oil leave for about forty minutes then launder as usual with detergent this will remove the stains and odor. Good Luck !

I have a husband and 2 boys so I often have this problem also. I started using Arm and Hammer washing soda (yellow box in the supermarket laundry aisle) when the boys were babies to get the poop smell out of things, and just kept using it. Works really well on smelly camping wash, gym clothes, underwear and socks, B.O. etc. Contains baking soda and borax, I think. Use about one cup per wash load.
Good luck!

Have you tryed pretreating the grease & oil with Dawn dish soap before washing his clothes? Dawn is a degreaser & it's worth a try. Maybe you could buy a jug of Dawn & presoak the clothes in it before putting them through a wash cycle. Using a liquid softener will help with the odor.

I use Automatic dishwasher detergent, about 1/2 cup, and hot water. Let soak awhile and then finish cycle. Wash again as usual and you can add other colored clothes safely.
