There is a march this Sunday to end the war in NYC. I have never been to a march or a protest of any kind so I am wondering if it will be safe. I have family fighting the war and I feel I need to go but Im worried that I will be putting myself in danger. It's manhattan so of course you have to be on gaurd but do I have to worry about getting arrested or anything like that? What should I expect?

I AM AGAINST THE WAR AND FOR ALL OF YOU SAYING THAT IT WILL DISRESPECTFULY TO MY FAMILY FOR ME TO GO ARE FULL OF ****! MY FAMILY IS NOT THERE BY CHOICE THEY ARE THERE BECAUSE OF SOMEONES HIDDEN AGENDA!

MY QUESTION WAS NOT WETHER OR NOT YOU THINK ITS A 'DISGRACE' FOR ME TO GO. I ASKED IF THERE IS A DANGER IN ME GOING. AS A MATTER OF FACT, MY WHOLE FAMILY, AUNTS, UNCLES, COUSINS, WE ARE ALL GOING! NOW WHAT?

Let me ask you guys something?? Have any of you lost family members to this war??? Do any of you know the feeling of watching the news and praying you don't see that your family member was killed?? Do you know how it feels to say goodbye to someone you might never see again?

It's a simple question, I really don't give a rat's *** what your opinion on the war is. I don't care if you feel its 'unamerican' to be against it. I did not force my anit-war opinion on you so don't force your anit-american beliefs on me. Our military is here to protect us, not go in blind and die for reasons that have nothing to do with the well being of THIS country.

I will be with you in Spirit! - As will Millions of other Americans who Object to this illegal, immoral, and unnecessary War!

But to answer your question - No this particular March will not end the war unfortunately.

And Contrary to the Republicans it will Not embolden the Enemy either! They have been embolden enough by Bush already!

As to whether or not you will be safe just look at it this way - God will send you 10,000 of his Holy Angels to look after you for standing up for your righteous cause and your beliefs!

Obey all of the Laws and Police Officers while you are there and you should have no fear of being arrested - unless you just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Stay from unruly crowds of people! And don't get caught in the middle of any arguments or fights!

Locally - On that day when I go shopping - I will be wearing my Tee Shirt with the message - "IMPEACH THE BA$TA RD" on it that everyone enjoys!

Good Luck & God Speed!

There is nothing disrespectful about your disagreeing with administration foreign policy. I think that is what people are protesting, not the troops. The troops are sent into situations regardless of individual beliefs, this is the nature of their commitment. Thus, disagreeing with the reason for sending them doesn't necessarily translate into disrespecting the troops. Dissent can be patriotic and this country has a rich tradition of citizen activism. I think the people here are shocking unAmerican in their respect for the rights of the people to assemble and express their opinions. Something which traditionally is VERY American.

To actually answer your question, I think so long as you are peaceful and respond to whatever the authorities ask there is probably little chance of arrest. If the protest becomes disruptive there is more of chance that you may get arrested as part of group. I think you will probably be fine, just be aware of what is going on around you and leave if you feel uncomfortable with anything that is going on.

Political cultists are people who are more dedicated to some bizarre extremist ideology than they are their country or even their families. This cuts for the both the right and the left. When people speak they way you do it is clear that you are just mouthing slogans such as illegal, immoral war, and he lied which are part of the Democratic spin to hide the reality of the war. Bush went to war, months after being in office, with most of the Clinton bureaucrats still in place and he went to war on the authority of the American Congress which was a Democratic majority. Cultists do not call for the impeachment of Hillary, Byrd or any of the other Dem Senators who voted for the war. So why not? If its Bush's illegal, immoral, untruthful war, why is it not the Dem Party's as well. The "faked" intelligence often cited came from the Senate Intelligence Committee which was chaired at that time by a Democrat (Sen Rockefeller a left leaning person). So what you are mostly doing is just mouthing political spin from another bunch of politicians trying to make us forget reality and not remember their part. It is perfectly logical to oppose the war on tactical terms, we should have left after the regime was removed and let the United Nations sort it out but then the UN does not really exist so they declined to do that. Is nation building the kind of thing a Republican administration is likely to do or a Democratic big feeling administration? Conservative types love to cover themselves in the flag and have an all day feel good about themselves. Liberals love to cover themselves in some image of themselves as intelligent and well just so damned moral it hurts. The truth is none of that is true. Both sides are poltiical cultists who sit up and bark like dogs when told to and believe anything they are told by whoever controls their little groups. Politics stink and people who buy into political jargon stink even more since they are downhill from the source and what comes out of politicos butts comes out of your mouth. War is never nice. The inability to stand by a country committed to a war is less nice. Are you dissing the troops? Oh hell yeah you are and if you think you are going to a rally that is going to make you feel good about the troops you will really have to have your blinders on. What do you hope to accomplish, the Dem Party controls the Congress and could end the war tommorrow but they are not because they know it can't be done. So long as there are people who will overlook that while having a feel good day in the streets they will be OK. The latest deal for political spinners is to pretend that they are just interested in the troops and care for the troops...but they don't and never did and you will be playing in that pool at your rally. You may get a great big feel good for yourself but you are not honoring the people you say you are, its just a phony position by political activists who need left wing cannon fodder (you) who can help to diss the right wing cannon folder (the troops) in order to use you in their groups hope to regain political power. And then? Nothing will change. Nancy did not come through did she and now your folk are picketing her house as a warmonger. The Dem Party has put its foot down on the war with its new majority and demanded that the troops be brought home by 2008 and that is just a little bit longer than the original plan to bring them home but it makes a nice slogan and leftists bought that with only a few noticing that it was an empty gesture. The Congressional election is over for a couple of years they don't you til the next time they hold a dance and need dummies to dance. This is a moderate country and the vast, vast majority lives somewhere in the middle. The National Dem Party is currently controlled by leftists (I am a lifelong Dem) that has nothing to do with rank and file Dem voters, which is why Bush (a minority party candidate) was elected TWICE by millions of Dem voters. Thanks God the extremes from the right and left X each other at the ballot box. Have a nice dance, don't forget to chant like a magpie when the bullhorns tell you to. Its just like the anti abortion demonstrations only the other political extreme. I have two sons in Iraq, both volunteered, both are committed to helping the Iraqis, both care very little for politics. Thank God there are men of courage who protect the rest of us. Incidentally I noticed that you keep upping your downright goodness with new paragraphs and have even claimed, lately, to have lost a family member in the war. How despicable of you to make such a claim for political reasons.

Hey protest all you want it is a "free" country. Since you will be with the rest of your family you should be fine, you should only be worried if things get out of control and the "peace" is broken, then duck and cover.

I don't agree with the march and often wonder what people expect the military is here for...they volunteer to join...the military is for war and defense not just get a "job" or scholarship...and military conflicts shouldn't be conducted by "popular opinion" or "polls". And don't believe the nonsence being thrown up from the other party. Weren't we suppose to be out of Kosovo by now?

Alright, look. Not only do I have a brother currently on active duty (and recently returned from a long deployment), but I, too served, VOLUNTARILY, from '86 - '90. What exactly do these "marches" accomplish? Absolutely nothing, except to hurt morale.

I'm not a big Bush fan. I think he's been largely incompetent in waging this war (which I supported), and even derelict on the issue of border security, but I would never insult the men and women on the battlefield by attending a war protest.

Yes, it's your right to protest, and nobody's trying to deny you that LEGAL right, but I'm just as free to call you a loser for doing so as you are to march. Your brother volunteered to serve the Commander in Chief; let him do it with dignity.

that relies upon on which edge you're on....working example, very few interior the US have ever heard of the conflict of Newtown, however the British viewed it one in all their worst defeats of the war......

If you're going to go, find one of the groups that actually supports the troops and stand with them, in contrast to what will be a military-bashing fest from the left. If you do that though, watch for rocks, bricks, bottles, feces, and other miscellany thrown from the lefties' side.

Stand tall, stand proud for your family who put themselves in harms way.

instead of going out and protesting against your family fighting in the war, why not march in SUPPORT of them?

2007-03-14 01:49:38 · answer #8 · answered by webbrew 4 · 6 2

Instead of dishonoring your family, you should stay at home and support them. Crazy protestors are always violent. I was there for the RNC in 04 when they were protesting, and that's all they did cuss, and fight.
