i go into a room with the full intention of cleaning it or tidying it, i sit on the end of the bed/sofa and think about what i'm going to do first......then an hour later i am still sat there reading a mag i just found or just having random thought totally unrelated to housework.

i am easily distracted!

I think that sometimes it´s because there´s just to many thing´s to be done. I used to do the same thing but now I never start unless I finish the job. Here is a way that might help you get your housework done. Set your clock for 15, min´s & in that time see how much you can do in that one room , you will be surprised just how much you can do . Never take thing´s back to there rightful places until you finish the room , leave them outside the door . When the alarm clock goes off stop and & have a rest if you feel you would like to carry on then do so , set the clock again and contiue the same .When you finish what your doing reward yourself sit with your feet up read your magazine, half a coffee. Try and see if it works for you

Hi!
I think you could think how you would appreciate a cleanned house!
When I clean my house, every saturday, I do it in about 4 hours. The entire home!
But before I start to clean, I put the clothes at the wash machine.
I start the cleanning from the baths (3), than the rooms, later my bedroom and wash the varanda. In the end, I clean the kitchen and start preparing the lunch.
For this reason, in a couple of hours my house is clean, smelling very well, clothes washed, lunch done... than I can open a can of beer and enjoy my weekend with friends, go to the beach, prepare a barbecue...! Free from work!
Think about it! Organization is the word!

There could be several reasons why this happens.
1) You have an attention deficit disorder.
2) Your not really interested in cleaning.
3) You don't have any room in your home to organize appropriately.
1) Make a list of the things that need to be done and check them off 1 at a time as you complete the task. It doesn't have to be done all in one day, spread it out over the week.
2) Do not go into a room intending to clean and sit down.
3) If you haven't used it in 6 months to a year; get rid of it. Make room that will allow you to organize more efficiently.
4) Buy containers if necessary to organize certain items then fill them up one at a time and place them in an area you've made for storage.
5) Have a specific schedule set for doing chores daily, as well as, time to sit down and journal your thoughts so you'll have a better understanding of where your mind wonders off to. Maybe you'll see a pattern or an area of focus that your mind keeps going to.
6) Motivate, work and reward yourself.

Actually No. I dont do that but what I do often do is start cleaning a room, notice something out of its place, like a jacket that needs to hung in the closet , or a bottle of nail polish I left on the coffee table, and I will go to take care of that, then I will get distracted by something else, and it takes me so much longer to take care of the room I started in!

Everyone does that now and again. I do it when I wear my super comfy robe around the house. It's too comfy so I don't feel like doing dishes and cleaning things. It's much nicer to curl up on the couch with a good book when my kids are napping!
It seems like when theirs TOO much to clean, I am totally un-motivated. For me I have to keep it really clean every day, that way I stay motivated to keep it that way. When it gets really messy, I have a harder time getting it done b/c it seems like there's too much to do I don't know where to start.
Once you get going, even if you don't feel like doing it, you become motivated as you're getting things done, so give that a try.
But do take that time to do nothing too!!

All the time. I started to clear out a cupboard this morning, trying to make more storage space, and found some photos from way back. Needless to say, the cupboard still needs doing,as I sat and looked at them for ages. I am now back at work, planning to do it tomorrow. Well, maybe.....

Of course. Only the people who really enjoy house cleaning actually stay the course. I find all kinds of reasons not to do it, or, more frequently, I bring something to another room, then see something in that room that needs doing. It just gets overwhelming.

Sounds like a great idea..but if I did that my house would never get clean. I will procrastinate every now and then. Like right now, I have to do laundry but I'm here on Yahoo answers!
