First you need to be in a comfortable position, likely you could stand, which might be easiest. Next, after you open the tampon, look to see that there are basically two parts to the tampon, you need to slowly insert the tampon into your vagina until the top part of it is inside of you all the way. The very bottom of the top section of the tampon usually has something to grip. Hold onto this part with your fingers and push the lower part of the tampon up until you feel it going inside of you. Basically, at this point, you are done inserting it and you can pull out the applicator part, which leaves the tampon inside of you, and the string to remove it hanging out of you. There are also pictures and step-by-step instructions here: http://www.tampax.com and there should be a set inside the box of tampons you purchase. Good luck honey :)

Also, be sure not to use one that's too large for your needs. They come in light, regular, heavy and super heavy absorbancies. Only use the largest size you need because your chances of developing Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), your body rejecting a foreign object in it basically, increases if you use a size too large.

#1.) Go in the bathroom or which ever room you choose and shut the door.

#2.) Open the tampon and look carefully at it. You will notice that it is made up of 3 parts. The applicator (Which is the part that you will be putting inside of you) and the end (which is the part that you will push the tube into the other tube) and the cotton with the string on it.

Know that only the cotton with the string will be left inside. You can practice before you try. Point the tampon anyway you wish in the air. Press the end of the tampon making that tube go into the other tube which pushes the cotton out. This is what you will be doing when you insert it. You will push the end tube through the applicator tube to push the cotton w/ string inside.

You can sit on the toilet or stand. Insert the tampon all the way to the end of the applicator tube. One the first tube is in, take your finger and PUSH the other tube inside of the applicator tube to push the cotton w/ string inside. Push that tube all the way untill you are touching your body with your finger.

It should now be in. Pull out both tubes. You should now have a tube with a tube inside of it. The cotton with the string should be inside.

Hope this helped.

It's actually easier to follow the diagram on the instructions.
Place 2 fingers on the lines provided going around the outside of the tampon.
place the tampon inside until your fingers r touching the outside of your va.g.g.
then u place another finger on the top of the tampon n push it in.
hope that helps .

I actually have a tendency to push the applicator down slightly so the cotton is showing 1 / 4 to maybe 0.5, positioned one foot on the lavatory or my mattress, gently handbook the tampon in direction of the whole the place you pee from and push it in, and then pull the plastic out. it works large for me.

instructions on putting a tampon IN are inside the box... but if you are new to the whole menstruation thing, you may want to start with pads for now.

I'd be inclined to go with the advice of the manufacturer -
(that would be the slip of paper in the box explaining insertion and the disclaimer )
