Cystitis and urinary tract infection are one and the same thing. You can buy AZO ( but not AZO cranberry) this will help with the bladder spasms that cause the pains, also there is an over the counter antibiotic called cystex. These can be bought at walgreens or CVS or most pharmacies. This should relieve a mild UTI. Once you are having blood in the urine or blood tinged urine and she is not having her menses then see your M.D for a stronger antibiotic like cipro. But the ones that i have mentioned and increasing fluids like water and cranberry juice should work. Good luck.

Definatley a cystitis type infection mate. Not necessarily cystitus but sound more like a water infection with the pain in the lower back. Great you got her into the docs. and hope she ok. Try Co-codomol to help ease before she goes to the doctors, however this can sonetimes cause nausea. Great pain relief though. Wish her all the best xx

Hmmm...She may have uric crystals in her urine. Maybe she has a kidney stone she is trying to pass? That can cause referred pain to the lower back. Drinking water and cranberry juice is a very good idea to help dilute the urine and keep the track moving if there is some crytallize-type substance present in her urine. Try that, and maybe some heat to her lower back 30 minutes on/30 minutes off. I mild NSAIDS like iboprofen/advil might help ease the edge off the pain somewhat. Hope this helps!

More likely than not, your wife has an infection.

If the infection has progressed from the urethra up to the bladder, it could now have spread up into her kidney(s).

She can take an over the counter pain medication IF, her doctor says she take one. Or if she knows that there are medications she is not allergic to, or sensitive to--Acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin. Your wife and doctor will know what she can take.

If she is seeing a doctor today, that is exactly what needs to be done!!

Good Luck!!

It sounds like she has a UTI. The best thing for her to do is to rest and lie down. She should continue to drinks lots of water or pure cranberry juice. The doc will probably prescribe some anitbiotics. Best thing for to do is avoid baths and intercourse for now. Hopefully she will feel better soon. There is nothing worse than an UTI. She has my sympathies. Best wishes.

It sounds a lot like cystitis. She could try drinking cranberry juice. There are also sachets of powder to add to water that are supposed to help

I suffer from cystitis and I don't think this is what your wife has. It sounds more like a urinary tract infection which will probably require antibiotics to clear it up. Hope this helps.

Sounds like a UTI. Don't take any meds because the doctor may prescribe one and you don't want to mix them. Have her drink a ton of cranberry juice.
