My boyfriend and I have picked out a name for our son. I'm 6 months pregnant and it's taken this WHOLE time to finally agree on one. We like Dylan Avery. I told my mom, however, and she thinks Dylan sounds "country" similar like Trevor, Dustin and Travis..."hick" names. She said if Dylan doesn't remind her of a "country" name it reminds her of a bratty kid. I'm upset by this. She said she doesn't want to call him Dylan if I name him Dylan. She said that she'll call him "jackson" (My original name choice) Do you think this name sounds like what she said...or is it a cute name? I just don't see it being country or bratty, but it upsets me and I'm at a loss. Plus I'm mad she's already refusing to call him by his name, just cause she doesn't like it. What do I do?

We're sticking with Dylan Avery, but I'm having a hard time with it and am starting not to like it because of her.

This is your child and you should name him whatever you and your boyfriend want to!!! If your Mother doesn't like it too dayum bad!!! I have a new grand-daughter too and I am not too fond of her first name either but I didn't say anything about it I just gave her a nickname and there were no hard feelings. By the way, my grandsons name is Dillian and it is NOT country!!!!!!!

A more fitting name for your baby might be a little bit more traditional. Instead of Dylan, Trevor, Dustin, Travis... To get away from the so called "hick names" as your mom says, why not use a name like RICHARD DYLAN AVERY, or DONALD DYLAN AVERY, or GREGORY DYLAN AVERY.

You might also want to go to your public library and get a copy of the book of names. You might find a name in there that you like better than Dylan.

Let your mom see it, too. She might see something that appeals to her that the both of you might be able to live with.
It is worth a try.

Excellent name. There was a great poet named Dylan Thomas. In fact, Bob Dylan took his name from Dylan Thomas.

Your mother is taking too muc liberty by trying to name your child. Tell her that the name is Dylan and if she doesn't like the name then she doesn't need to be a part of his life. If you think this is the only time she is going to interfere with your kid you are wrong. Stand up to her now to keep her from plowing you under.

apart from the Canadian national anthem, there is not any such factor. If some critic thinks they are able to tell Canadians which artists music is the definitive Canadian sound then they're packed with crap. music does not have a nationality - an artist could be born right here yet that's unlikely to intend their music is immediately representative. It does not define what they elect to play or maybe their form. possibly they could be defined in an fairly simplistic way as belonging to a "form", yet it is definitely a nasty thank you to describe any paintings. possibly extra severely it is an fairly disrespectful thank you to brush aside all of an artist's artwork that reaches outdoors of that constrained definition. basically somebody who has not extra musical appreciation than the greenback fee of a CD on the money sign in could be so shallow as to think of that music or maybe artists could be defined with no longer something extra effective than a flag it rather is shared via thousands and thousands of people. each and every person in a us of a is unique. Claiming all of us or their paintings is the definitive "Canadian" sound might additionally thoroughly insult all the different Canadian artists which you probably did no longer point out. all of them deserve the identify... choosing one out only tells us each and every thing with regards to the non-public tastes, comments and prejudices of a critic inspite of the incontrovertible fact that it says no longer something with regards to the large scope of what Canadian music is definitely like.

ok i'm having trouble finding a name for my little boy and he is due in 5 weeks! part of the trouble is when i do think of a name *someone* always seems to have a problem with it or think of a reason to put me off the name.
i have now decided that i do not care what anyone else says if i like a name i will call my son that!!
your mum sounds like she needs to grow up ! (sorry i know that sounds harsh) but she is going to be a grandma and has to accept that its YOUR baby not hers, therefore she has to accept whatever you decide and realistically has no say in the matter.
i think dylan is a lovely name personally but its up to you, he is your son, name him what *you* want to call him regardless of what other people say. not everyone will always like your choice .

I like Dylan Avery, it sounds strong. Who knows you may change your mind later, but I wouldn't if you feel very strong about it.

You can't please everyone all of the time. If you and your husband like the name Dylan then this is what you should name your son. His name is the first gift he will get from you.
