For now it is the Taipei 101 in Taiwan. However, it will soon be surpassed by the Burj Dubai in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, which is going to be f**king HUGE!

Tallest roofed building: Taipei 101 (just over 500m), near the cuty hall in Taipei, Taiwan.
Tallest free-standing structure: a tower in Canada (cant remember the name).

Shame, Ashley you're about 35 years behind. Empire State lost that status in 1972.

I can see it now from my window.

It's in Taipei. Da-An district. You can almost see if from everywhere in and around Taipei.
