How can I publish & market a book?

I’ve always loved reading & volunteering. I believe I can write a book, which would be interesting and beneficial to many people. But I want to know my options regarding publishing a book. I also wish to get advices, suggestions and recommendations about marketing a book.

Have you thought about publishing on the internet. This is called an e-book. It can be downloaded by thousands of people at a price you establish. I like the idea of selling an e-book from my own website, in addition to paperbacks in selected stores. But, Mukesh, why do you say writers can't publish or market? I agree it should be left to the professionals, but there are things writers can do to aide in promoting their product.

you can not publish a book and market it successfully if you are a writer. you should aproach any established publishing house i suppose.
