Yes, it is totally unnecessary to be cruel to animals. A person who picks on something smaller than them is a small person themselves.

Yes I would and I have done this a few times, people beating an animal or leaving it in a hot car, I have called the Humane Society and I have called Police.I just can't sit by and watch someone being so cruel, I always figure if they would do that to an animal then they probably to the same thing to their children too, and that type of behavior has to be stopped, to protect those who can't protect themselves. I have also called on people who leave their animals out in freezing weather with no protection or food and water.

I would at least try, whether that would be as in having a conversation with its owner as to their actions toward the animal or by taking other steps and calling people who can step in an help the animal on a higher level than I could.

Yes I would... and I would punch that person in the nose!!
Unless the animal was a pest, then I put the animal down humanly with a single shot to the head or chest

My tendency is to say yes, but your question is so non-specific that I can envision multiple scenarios—there are so many PETA people around now. But, yes, if I saw what I agreed was cruelty to an animal, I would intervene, and the circumstances would determine the nature of my intervention. I still enjoy dead meat, veal and foi gras..
