Seriously, Our troops need rotation...they are over extended. SO, Where are the pro-war young guys to step up and sign up. I hear all this talk talk...but the country is in need. This liberal is too old and too wounded from serving two tours in Vietnam, but I did my duty. Which one of you pro-war younger men are going sign up? Or is this just tough talk on Yahoo?

Did you know that only 40% of the military has deployed?

Do you realize that leaves 60% who can still deploy for the first time?

It's not a matter of more people, it's a matter of figuring out how to fix the rotation schedule so that the same people aren't deploying over and over.

Here's an example.

A friend of mine, here, is the XO for a BN. When we rotate out he's going to DIV staff. That division will be back here in FEB.

Basically, he's going to be home for 6 months before he'll be back here again.

I think we need to go to a regimental system so that soldiers can stay in the same unit for their career. That would fix some of it. Also, I really think that the Army needs to come up with a better rotation plan.

You do not know who has the final say on the amount of money being printed which is Congress by the way, but i am PRO-DRAFT! I was a volunteer during Vietnam. I think we need to build up to 6.5 million troops drafting 18-40 years of age, China has over 11 million military members! My son-in-law just got back from Iraq after 14 months of being there! My Daughter put in 1 hitch & got out like i did!

very awesome question!

hey lucky!? "chicks" can't! women can! women do!

I wish I could... I am too old... when I could have, there were no problems... biggest thing was the challenger... I remember it cause that is the day the air force came to school..... junior year HS

I know for my family here? one cousin just came out, two are in the service.... one joined while a junior in HS (he is a senior now) my sister, her husband and one brother did their service back when we were still in "storm" does that show my age? ha!

my father did 24 years army, one uncle was navy, one coast guard, grandfather was air force did his service during the second big one....

I have had family members come home from this one.. lost some during others (either mentally or pyhsically)

I see the answere who says 40% is over and 60% left... what is that is real numbers? how many should be left on stateside for defense? how many are overseas in other locations?
my father taught me a thing or two.... granted I know nest to nothing when pitted against the guys who served lifetime... but still... risk is a great tool to teach with (among other things)
40% deployed over to this seems an aweful lot considering the results..... 60% leaves how much percentage really on US soil?
we are over extended because they cut the military bases/forces/spending/funding before this all started and now they have to scramble to get people to join.... it is not an appealing prospect though to ask people to join to sacrifice for a cause they do not feel is their business, their concern and do not see how it could affect them...
I know, does not show much for bravery... although they may turn table and say no, they are just not fools.... eh... perspective

my own daughter is thinking of joining... a freshman... yes, they do sign 'em... not send 'em..... lots in this area... northlands.. cold.... she has more character, bravery than the boys who say they are for it and do nothing to help it.....

one old "brat's" answer

active list I have five cousin's in the service
and
one in HS who goes to drill once a month
and
two uncles active reserve
and
everyone else already served that list is too long
hey! I have over fifty first cousins... large family!

I agree, everyone is supportive of us troops, but I don't see many in line to sign the dotted line. Our forces are being stretched awful thin. We are constantly deployed every other year. If more people would step forward and strengthen our force it would make the rotations back at home longer. I am proudly doing my part, I have 8 years under my belt in the AF. I urge others to step up and help us out.

Already have. I just re-enlisted for six more years. I have:

* Did 10 years active duty.
* Been in the Army and the Guard for a total of 15 years (and counting) and plan on staying in until they boot my old @ss out.
* 3rd combat tour within the last 10 years.

Have a great Army day! Hooah!

I already did my 20, but if it was 10 years earlier I would be engaged in Iraq myself with my MOS.
