I'm just a young girl minding my own business. The new rules of random stop and search in subways and buses...is this necessary?

The subway has thousands of entrances that terrorists can get thru with no detection. Does Bush think manning only a handful of entrances is going to stop a terrorist?

Soon the govt will have the right to stop me anytime anywhere to seach my bag for NO APPARENT REASON. I was just WALKING for godsake! What is this..Communist China?

MEANWHILE, MEXICAN AND CANADIAN BORDERS ARE WIDE OPEN!! WHO'S MANNING THE BORDERS?

Good morning!

It's still just for the protection of the people involved in mass transit; just like it was yesterday and the day before.

I guess one question that comes to mind is why would you mind so much? If someone wanted to (and they have) search my bag, I would thank them (and I have) and let them search. Were they rude about it? If you have nothing illegal to hide, then there is no problem. These people have a thankless job and are often seen as the enemy. The real enemies are the terrorists who some people are complaining that we are violating THEIR rights by hunting them down. As for the borders, it would seem that since in the last 2 years MANY major arrests of terrorists were made at those borders, each belonging to cells with intent to cause damage to Americans (probably in places like subways) that someone IS watching those borders. Unfortunately, the newspapers are far more interested in hiding those stories and only reporting the ones showing our government in an unfavorable light.

I went through that a couple of times so far, but you can file a complaint if you feel violated. You might also want to pick up certain newspapers (not the news or the post) to get a different perspective of the situation.

Your kidding, right? If our enemies wore uniforms we wouldn't need things like random subway searches or the Patriot Act! We are in a time of war...there are individuals out there, even living among us and who look like us, willing to kill us and blow us up! Yes, you have rights BUT we as the American public also have the right to live freely and NOT in fear! If random subway searches protect us then I'm al for it! America....Love it or LEAVE it! As far as the borders go, I say make them as tight as possible BUT the ACLU will yell and scream that we are stomping on the rights of a possible would-be citizen.....what about OUR rights?!?!?

You can thank all of our great law abiding foreignors for that. The polititions let these animals into our country and they hate Americans because we are still free to a certain extent! Don't feel too bad at least you didn't lose your job to some ******* like I did!

If you have nothing to hide, open your bag, let them see, and be on your way. No harm, no foul. But if you carry on like you seem to be doing here about it, they are apt to detain you longer. Do you need to be reminded that NYC is still a sleeper cells hunting ground? You should be thankful the transit authority is doing their job.

Are you of middle eastern descent?
What about carrying a large bag?
Causing a ruckus?

If one of the three don't apply, then it might be harassment. But from my knowledge of police, they go after people when they have a hunch that something might not be right or you simply pissed one of them off and they searched you in turn.

To keep passengers safe. You do know you are violating the TOS by asking the same question over and over, right?

Because you let them. You could have said NO and it would be perfectly legal, but you didn't.
