I am starting my baby on solid food and have run into a problem. She absolutely hates rice cereal. Is it ok to start her on baby food first. If not, any suggestions on how to spice up the cereal to make it more appealing? Thanks in advance.

With my 3 I switched around the cereals...oatmeal, rice, barley..and let them get a taste for them. They would decide which ones they like. You can start them on baby food, just stick with veggies to begin with, or the meats. We know most babies like fruits. I don't agree with adding ANYTHING to baby food. Baby food is designed for sensitive systems. Adding things like sugar and fruit disturbs that balance. It takes time for some babies to adjust to the taste of "real" food. Formula is all they've had. Keep trying and she'll adjust and be eating fine. The same with the other baby foods. If she doesn't like something now, wait a week or two and try again. Their tastes change pretty quickly.

There are boxes of oatmeal rather than rice.

You could puree lots of different veggies, like sweet taters etc.

You didn't mention how old she is. But I would mix baby food with the cereal.

Try getting apple sauce and put that in with her rice cereal. The reason I'm saying apple sauce is because it's sweet and it will be more easier on her tummy.

she can have blended vegetables and things like that and u can also buy flavored cereals which my daughter loved. She loved banana too which is perfect blended and can be added to plain cereal. Be careful with banana and don't give her too much throughout the week coz they can find it hard to go to the toilet with too much.
