Oral contraceptives "the pill" can be used to stop the bleed of a menstrual cycle, however the success of this is dependant on the type of pill you use. The combination pill (progesterone/oestrogen) can be very successful and the mini pill can also work. However after a number of missed bleeding periods you can get what is known as break through bleeding, small spots of blood at random times. At the occurrence of this it is best have a a proper menstrual cycles once this is settled down you cans start again. Please discuss this with you family planning practitioner and or GP as there are some potential implications of doing this. Unfortunately for you as your bleed cycle has already started there's not a lot you can do about it. For the Gym and swim use a tampon, as for the date short of any fondling in that area a man will not notice cant answer for a women though.

If you take the pill it will take a couple of days for the bleeding to stop.
As with any questions about the contraceptive pill, you should see your doctor because there may be other factors you need to consider.
If it's the swimming and the gym you're worried about, just use a tampon.

If your period has already started i think it might be to late. If your on the pill and you want to miss a period rather than have a 7 day break you just start your new packet the day after the old 1 finishes. So no period that month but normally when you do this your period is heavier the following month

It might be a bit too late for the pill to work straight away as you have already come on. I think it takes a few days to stop a period.
I wouldn't advise trying it without consulting your doctor first, after all the pill is hormones and they can do funny things to your body if not taken correctly.

It wont stop the bleeding immediately. You could try using a tampon or if you dont like them then just put off the swimming and gym until youre not on. Exercise does help with period pain though, and unless youre planning on having sex on this date then it shouldnt matter that youre on

if you've already come on then it would take a few days of taking the pill to stop it but in future you can run pill packs back to back occasionally without any breaks inbetween and this can either hold it off altogether or won't work at all but if it does hold it off it will be worse next time you come on as it will be two months worth.

If you have already come on I don't think there is anything you can do. Use tampax for swimming/gym and just take a couple of painkillers for cramps. You will be fine.

If you already are having your period it is too late to "try" to stop it. Just wear a tampon.
