i´m not quite sure how to properly use the word serios in a sentence as an adverb...which is correct. They dont take the exam serious...or is it this one which is the one i think it is.They don´t take the exam seriously.....

Seriously modifies the verb take.
Seriously is the adverb.

i think of your sentence is somewhat ambiguous. Are you surprised by way of the youngsters or are you surprised by way of the actuality that they are waving at you? while you're surprised by way of the youngsters, then you certainly might say "We have been surprised by way of the youngsters that have been waving to us" while you're surprised by way of the actuality that the youngsters have been waving at you, then you certainly might say "We have been surprised that the youngsters have been waving at us"
