i write obits for 3 NY papers. Legacy.com is a central location for major newspaper obits across the country. You can also try calling the library's in the area your looking. They often have digital lists of local obits. I know my local library does. They will definatly have the papers from those years that you can look through.

to find a death certificate you have to search each and every county and they all have different protocols. It's easier to find the obituary first, in order to find the county.
