That's hard to answer because there are quite a few "clays" that you can make at home and which harden alone... that is, they "dry" in the air (often overnight) and don't have to be cured at a low temperature (like polymer clay) or a high temperature in a kiln (like earth, ceramic clay). Those are all in the general category of "air-dry clays."

Probably the one you're thinking of though is "salt dough clay" since it's the most common air-dry homemade clay. Here are many recipes for it, though they may vary just a bit from each other:
