Isn't that PRECISELY what they should be doing? Shouldn't the people WE elect as our representatives be doing things that will make us want to vote for them again?

If the choices they make that get them elected again are bad choices, then are THEY really to blame.....or is it us?? Clearly, if they are making bad choices in order to please us, then we like bad choices.....

It seems like you get what you pay for folks...We have nobody to blame but ourselves....

I am interested on other's thoughts on this...

You are absolutely right. All of these people sit and whine and whine about their elected officials pandering for their votes, but when the officials vote for a tax cut that we cannot afford, just to get their votes, they follow like sheep and vote for the irresponsible politician.

It is their own fault

I understand your frustration but here in America we usually get two choices at election time - they would be bad and worse. Our founding fathers intended for our representatives (remember representative government) to be citizens - not career politicians. We are represented by people who are skilled in raising money to pay for ads and who know how to say what you want to hear to get your vote. Why - power and money. Ever wonder how a politician can be paid $600,000.00 for the time he was in office and retire a multi-millionaire ?

If it's not a genuine gesture, once they get into office they will do whatever they want, until the next election starts rolling around. And we only have so much to choose from don't we. I don't know why that is, but that's the way it is.

you have to look at the overall picture and record of a candidate. did they join another person in proposing a bill which you do not agree with? do they believe in something that you do not? are they making decisions to improve their own social standing? (see vice president/halliburton)
