Double click My Computer, right click whatever the drive you want to share, in this case C: drive, so right click C drive, select Sharing and Security, click on the link and follow the sharing wizard. It's not that hard. I've done it, so can you.

A bit more details is required about the CD copy etc.. so leaving that to one side, I would suggest changing the Sharing permissions on the laptop and then use the PC to explore the laptop and copy the files across using your network. If you use Windows check the MSoft website for permissions and file sharing. Alternatively buy a 1 or 2Gb memory stick £10 - 20 and use that.
I hope this helps point you in the right direction...
Good luck.

If you are using XP you should be able to share folders across the network. Right click and select sharing and security, or place files in the shared folder in `my documents` which can be accessed from another pc on the network.
(press `windows key` and `E` to open explorer window and look in network places)
If you still have trouble check your firewall settings.
And CDs contain read only files, You cannot modify a file on a CD, on re-wittable discs you can delete and add files.

more information perhaps? what kind of files? if they are just "word" files and such just save as a new copy perhaps.
or try right clicking the file, going to properties, and setting the read only settings there.
if they are blanked out, try making copies of the read only files on the new main computer.

If you copy them to a CD they will be read only because you can't modify anything you put on a CD (unless it is a CDRW-and even then you usually have to recopy the data to it to overwrite it)
Once you copy them back to a hard drive they will become usable again.

Well, it seems your network is not a Peer to Peer network.
I gather from your question that the laptop is the 'server' in your network.
Well, an easier way to install the network is to uninstall any Client-Server Network you may have now and just use the Windows network.
need more help?? just ymail me.
