The NBA is a thug league because all the players carry guns in they're huge, baggy shorts. They also sell crack on the side because they're 8.5 million $ a year isn't enough to pay for they're 27 cars and 50 million $ houses. It's true, I was at a Wizards game last month, and Gilbert Arenas tryed to sell me crack in the parking lot after the game. It was really weird. Now go back to the NBA section, you uneducated little child.

See this just shows you don't understand a thing. Fighting has always been accepted among gentleman. It is when you take a WEAPON that it becomes wrong. Also where the hell do all you people suddenly know the intent was to hit the neck? What makes you so sure the intent WASN'T the face, also remember that he had gotten a concussion from being hit into the end boards. Fighting though is two guys AGREEING to fight though. Carmello Anthony didn't say to the guy hey mind if I punch you and the guy say oh sure do it man. In hockey THEY DROP THE GLOVES, or in the very least the sticks, which is saying FIGHT. Both players AGREE to it.

I have been trying to make your point for days!!!!!! Basically it is because of the "we've always done it that way mentality" of the NHL. Nobody involved with Hockey wants to even CONSIDER how many people the violence might be keeping OUT of the building, they just want to keep pointing out that 90% of people involved with Hockey want this. To me this proves nothing, ask bank robbers if they think it is OK to rob banks, you'll get close to 90% agreement on that one too.
I have given up trying to make people understand this, but I wish at LEAST the league would show some guts and give people who swing sticks and throw sucker punches LIFETIME suspensions. Otherwise, the next person will not think either, the incident will be shown all over the news for days and hockey will continue to get an undeserved image because the NHL simply will not wake up and smell the coffee.
Oh and by the way let me apologize for the people upstairs who feel they have to start up with the whole "Obviously you don't know Hockey trip" just because you ask a fair question.
I get a lot of that too...............

Well if you look at the 2 sports, they are completely different when it comes to how they play. Hockey involves checking, checking, and checking, where basketball doesn't. And unless you've never watched hockey, I would think people wouldn't be suprised by violence in the game, even though there is almost no violence now thanks to the new rules. Plus I would like to see how you would react if someone slammed all 180+ pounds into you, and you cannot tell me that you would not want to get up and get some payback.

If you know anything, they made it so that the refs call more penalties now than they ever have. Look at clips of the NHL from 1990-2000 and then look at videos from the last 2 years. Are Don Cherry's videos filled with promise of bringing huge hits to the screen? Hell no. Gary Bettman is a total dumbass and hes to blame.

I think people are surprised by the "violence" in the game because they simply don't understand the Game itself. They have never strapped on skates and played a game at that speed and ferocity. It is a fast and furious game but "violent" is not a term I would use to describe it. A GREAT TEAM SPORT describes it better.

hockey needs to be violent i hate basketball and i hate how people ssay its more violent than hockey. if they were allowed to be violent in basketball who knows what would happen but they arent so hockey is more violent. and i dont think the rules should change for either. i think that if i was chris simon, i would have done the same thing, so i dont understand why they think its so violent...but for the record, i hate basketball.
go pens!

He's considered a "thug" because he hit someone and then ran like a girl. You're obviously not a hockey fan. If you don't like the violence, don't watch it.
