I've heard about 15 different stories about when women should ovulate, so, I'm hoping someone can provide me with a little clarity on the subject. I've been told that women ovulate 10-14 days after the LAST day of their period, 14-16 days after the FIRST day of their period, only on the 10th day after the LAST day of their period, or 12-14 days before the first day of their NEXT period. Since no one I've gotten the info from seems to be in agreement with anyone else, I'm wanting someone who actually KNOWS the time frame for ovulation in women with a regular cycle to try to explain the process to me.
FYI: My last period began on Saturday and ended yesterday evening (March 10-13).

I've been told that the home ovulation tests are pretty unclear themselves, so, I just wanted to ask for some advice before aggravating myself w/ one of those tests.

Ask your doctor for a fertility thermometer and temperature chart and take your temperature, before you get out or bed in the morning or eat or drink anything. Do this every day for the next 3 months then you will know when you are ovulating. Immediately before ovulation your temperature will drop slightly and then spike on the day of ovulation. Alternative you can get ovulation prediction kits at the chemist. These can be used together.

What actually happens is most women generally start their period 14 days after ovulation so if you have a regular 28 day cycle you will probably ovulate in the middle of it. But the human body is given to doing odd things so you can't be sure. If you are trying to concieve an ovulation prediction kit is one of the most effective tools as that will tell you that you are due to ovulate in the next day or two which is the best time to have sex.

Good luck

My doctor told me that women usually ovulate between day 12 and 18 of the cycle. So you would count the first day of your period as day 1. What she told me to do is to have sex at least every other day starting at day 10 and through till day 20. Sometimes that is easier said then done though. :) I tried to ovulation predictor kits and I could never get them to show me a surge in LH. I think you have to test a few times a day so you don't miss it and I was only testing once. What you can do is after your cycle ends (you have your next period) is start with the day before you have your period and count back 14 days - that is the day you ovulated. It helps to keep a chart so you can kind of figure out when you ovulate, when you had sex and when you were menstruating. I'm using one from www.drspock.com I shade in when I'm menstruating and write a S on days we have sex. Hope this helps! Good luck to you!

I understand that ovulation occurs approximately 14 days before the first day of your next period, so if you have a 28 day cycle you ovulate on day 14, HOWEVER...... this varies hugely. The only accurate way to know when you are ovulationg is to monitor your Basal body temp and to check cervical mucus and maybe buy an ovulation predictor kit. You can get them from ebay for pennies, a basic 28 day cycle recommends you start testing from day 11. Hope this helps.

There is a lot of different opinions but i think its because all women are different. I know mine is 12-14 days from the first day of my LAST period because i am seeing a fertility specialist and was scanned on day 12 to see if i ovulate. Its best to get to know your own body instead of getting yourself muddled with different advice. Use the 12-14 day rule and start listening to your body, sharp pain in your side, slippy white discharge like egg whites, feeling hotter than normal and sometimes nausea or increased appetite. Once you start looking out for these symptoms and take note you can pin point when in your cycle you will ovulate. Good luck x

try every other day 2 week from your period, because when you use ovulation kit the surge means your ovulation will occur within 24-36 hours so that don't mean your ovulation that day, but it is good to have sex that day just to make sure, i went to dollar tree and got 6 testing 2 x daily from day 11 of my cycle which is 28 days , but i didn't ovulate till day 17 so rule of 14th day isn't really true sometimes, also i buy pre-seed and i should know next week if it worked or not... but best way is not to stress your self out so much... that is why my ovulation is different this month then last month because stress can make it late or not even come at all... baby dust i hope that worked with you.. because my temp droped on 16th day and went up on 17th day so my surge was wednesday the 15th day if that helps to figure it out... GOOD LUCK...

Ovulation occurs around day 14 of the cycle if you have a 28 day cycle however. The best way to determine ovulation is to purchase an Ovulation Prediction Kit, which I use and it will show you when you are most fertile. That's what I use and it is reliable.

ok. If your period ended on the 13th. You ovulated on or around the 28th of Feb.

To find out when you ovulated..... you count 14 days back from the last day of your period.... Make sense?

So if your period started on the 21st of March and finished on the 25th. Count 14 days back. 25 - 14 = 9. So you ovulated on the 9th (give or take a day).

If you want to find out when your about to ovulate, you need to take your temerature every morning BEFORE you hop out of bed. The day that you ovulate is the day that your temperature drops about 0.2 - 0.3 degrees.

I've been told (after testing) that I ovulate on day twelve of my cycle, taking day one to be the first day of bleeding. You however might be slightly different to that. If you are concerned how about buying an ovulation test and using it around that time?

Average is a couple of weeks after your period begins. But it varies widely from one person to the next. Take your temperature - I've been told that's a fairly accurate indicator or when you're ovulating. They also sell ovulation kits to tell you more accurately.

If it were so cut and dried we would never have invented birth control of any kind!

Ovulation can only be approximately determined. Taking your basal temperature is the only way I know to tell when you're ovulating. Do some research into it. It is easy, but I haven't a clear enough recollection to tell you how anymore.
