Liability insurance claims in Australia would render the Commonwealth bankrupt because PM Howard would have to pay, under common law, compensation pay-outs to Aboriginal elders who'd claim to be the second generation of the "Stolen" era.
The Mabo decision of 1992 (which makes void the "Doctrine of Terra Nullius) already gives ancestral lands back to tribes of Aborigines all over Australia. And they don't have to prove their forefathers inhabited the area! Why? "Secret Women's Business".
Pastoral lands are being taken away from fourth-generation farmers in NSW, WA, SA and QLD already and given to Aborigines who let the farms go to ruin.

First of all, Howard is a prick and saying sorry means a lot of money. Take New Zealand for example - we aren't perfect, and have a lot of racial tension, but we are where we are because of 100 years of righting things the Australian government hasn't even started yet. The Aboriginal people were treated terribly because, at the time, the white colonisers didn't even really think of them as people, much less a nation. Certain unifying factors have to take place within a racial group before a government will get scared enough to apologise. These fundamental unifying factors were non-existant in the hunter-gatherer society that the Aboriginals lived in prior to colonisation. In the government's eyes, a people that are not completely united, (as much as say, post-tribal society people may be) do not threaten the government enough.

Because the current Australian Government hasn't done anything to the Aborigines that warrants an apology. Apart from the so called "stolen generation", the crimes perpetrated against aboriginal people were comitted by British Colonial Governments. Any apology from our government would result in a massive lawsuit against the country by any lazy **** Aborigine who feels hard done by because it's easier to bludge & get nowhere, than to work & achieve.

The sad fact of that matter is because Australia became a British peinal colony (a dumping ground for the unwanted) and evedently the British took rule of Australia just like they did with the U.S.
Personally, I am still waiting for the day when they do the same for the natives of this country.
