If you are talking about the Uk?.During the second world war 5 million colonial troops joined the British forces after the victory the British government said there would always be a place for them in the mother country. So guess what? they came after the war and then when the government needed more to do jobs such as work on public transport they recruited in the West Indies and the government even provided them with ships to come. Most of the people were welcomed they were British subjects and our manpower had been depleted by war.Now people say they should all be kicked out.I suppose those same people would dig up the war dead and send them back!.

I think alot came from the West Indies If you are talking about the UK. They were asked to come over because there wasn't much of a workforce after the 2nd World War. I've got to stick up for that generation though! People say that they did jobs the British didn't want to do, but they were very hard working back then. For example, the coal mines were all still open and millions of British men did back breaking work everyday. A bit harder than sweeping the road too.

In1953 a lot came from Jamaica and the West Indies via such ships as the Empire Windrush and this influx continued for many years. In 1956 Russia invaded Hungary and a lot of displaced persons found their way to the UK. My friend who was 5 at the time, with his elder brother and parents virtually walked from Hungary.

Among others, there were immigrants from many eastern European countries who fled literally in the middle of the night as the iron curtain fell. People came from Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia in 1950, often carrying no more than they could put in one suitcase. I know many of them and they are all very successful individuals.
