Hi Prachi, getting a scholarship as an international student for an undergrad in the US is an uphill task. A few things could help:

1. Stellar SAT score
2. Stellar/consistent academic track record
3. Exceptional extra-curricular activities (should show strong leadership/team work) with a solid proof of national/international recognition
4. Very strong recommendation letters
5. Clear/logical and impressive statement-of-purpose/essays for your proposed field of education

Other things that may also matter:

1. Knowing multiple foreign languages in addition to English (e.g., French, Spanish etc.)
2. Previous international exposure in academics or extra-curricular domain
3. Lots of money to show in your bank balance to clearly demonstrate that you can support yourself even without financial aid
4. Luck (for getting admission, financial aid and of course visa)

Scholorship are a dog eat dog type of thing. Sometimes what separates the one getting the scholorship and the one in second place may be a matter of a few points, or even a fraction of one point.Talk to your high school counselor, and he can give you the current info on what is available.
