If you are new to greyhound racing and can´t read the form given in the racecard, you can have a bit of fun by keeping the stakes low and watch the dogs when parading prior to the race. Look for a dog that has its ears pricked and looking about it ie pretty allert. Also look for a dog that places its tail well between its legs when standing still and not whirling it like a windmill. The tail is its stearing when at speed during the race. Having made your selection, you can either back it to win with the bookie or on the tote. I f you aren´t sure, the bookies are generally friendly guys( they need to be because they are after your money) and they will advise you on your bet. Remember if you are a novice , keep the stakes low and good luck and have fun.

My advice would be DONT GO !
The National Greyhound Racing Board admit themselves that at least 8,000 greyhounds are disposed of every year in the UK.........that means killed. Only 2, 000 of the 10,000 that are retired every year are rehomed. The lucky ones that are killed are PTS humanely, the not so lucky are hung, drowned, starved or mutilated (tattooed ears cut off to prevent tracing their owners) and then left to die painfully.
Check out

then make an informed decision on whether you want to support this dreadful slaughter, just for the sake of a few hours entertainment.

From someone who has 'insider' information.UK
You are in a fools paradise with Dog Racing.
Scams are rife on some tracks with 'preparing' dogs for races. Feeding the dog, just before a race, giving the dog copious amounts of water to drink etc
I've seen the favourites lose but, of course, I don't know if the reason was deliberate. E. & O.E.

To be honest, with the dogs its hard to judge, the races are so short that one mistake means your dogs chance of winning drops dramatically, the best way to enjoy the dogs is pick by names, keep your bets reasonably low and stay away from favourites in handicap races.
hope you have a good time

I've missed one truck race and a nationwide race. I have a dvr so it's pretty easy to catch them eventually, even if it's in the middle of the night. I do my best.

Put a bet on. If the dog you select wins the race you win some money , If it does not you lose some money. SIMPLE!

I always watch for a muscular dog. the ones with a more defined hind quarters seem to always run for lucky quicker. Have fun!

bet sparingly, no more than you would be comfortable losing.
