It's a Pioneer DVR K12D in a Sony PCG-K14 notebook. It stopped working with other than Microsoft Office original CD. It won't work with original DVDs nor with burned CDs or DVDs. Is there something I could do to make it work? (Other than replacing it?!)

I cleaned the lens, too. I forgot to add this in my initial question.

The laptop is 3 years old, so the warranty has expired.

Sounds like the drive is bad, if the laptop is still under warranty then call tech support and they should ship you out a new one.

You might try a lens cleaner - but laptop drives are notoriously flaky. Even the name brand ones.
