Whenever you gain more knowledge about a topic.. you expand your own understanding of how it affects you. So if you study psychology then you're bound to recognise aspects in yourself and your family and friends. Psychology also helps to break problems down so that they don't seem as difficult or scary... which is always a good thing! However a common joke among psych students is that every student who studies psychology finds themselves suffering from every illness (think it works for med students too)... I know that by studying the subject and all the history behind it, other people start making more sense , and relationships can be seen in a completely different light. It also gives you a sense of power over yourself, coz you can see what the problem is, and how to deal with it!

It helped me not only in understanding myself, but in work, in business, and in personal relatioships as well. Especially helpful in dealing with people at all times. And I only took 2 semesters of Psychology classes almost 30 years ago, never stopped benefiting from it till today!

I studied psychology in high school and enjoyed it so much that I got my BS degree in psychology in college. It will help you understand people and why people do things a little better. I think it is harder to look at yourself and be objective, but I guess it is somewhat helpful.

I did a double degree in psychology and criminology and I found it extremely helpful in everyday interactions and interpretting my own actions and of those around me. However, I would be wary of studying psychology purely for the benefit of self-diagnosis, because you can easily over-analyse your every move and diagnose yourself with every disorder in the DSM.

You'll get there that way, but it is a long route. much easier and faster is to talk with a wise person and discuss what you feel are your problems. In other words, get feedback, up close and personal.

Most definitely. You can over-analyze a problem, but overall it does help you approach one with options.
