I think it was the chelsea match I was watching at the weekend, not sure, may have been another, but I always hear from the stands "oh when the saints, go marching in", has your club adapted this song to sing "oh when the blues.., or perhaps "Oh when the reds.....At the end of the day, only Southampton fans can sing this song, as we are the SAINTS. So my question is: Do you sing the correct version, or do you adapt it to your team?

If the song is sung correctly....it is a Southampton song, this is purely a football question, not rugby, not a deep south america question, it was about my clubs anthem being used by other football teams supporters. And when i say football, I dont mean grown men chucking a ball about in padding.

liverpool fans do sing it (an adapted version when the reds) and i refuse to sing it at any game, i don't like it no offence, we have better songs to sing and shouldn't follow, but it is only song that the majority of daytrippers know.

Its adapted for each team, you probably heard Spurs fans singing it more (Our version is Oh When The Spurs Go Marching In)

But i wouldn't say it was YOUR song, St Helen's rugby league team actually has Saints in their title where as Southampton's nickname is the Saints - so if anything YOU have stolen THEIR song.

Most football anthems are odopted by each team like

Martin Jols white & blue Army/ Arsene Wengers Red army

or

COME ON YOU SPURS/COME ON YOU BLUES/COME ON YOU REDS

most songs can be changed..

It's not your property, it originated as a negro spiritual, in the US, became a gospel hymn, then was taken up by Jazz bands all over the world; later it became a football song but not exclusive to Southampton, it belongs to everybody.
