Out of the 22 singles released in the UK, starting with Love Me Do and ending with Let It Be, 17 reached the number one spot in the BBC chart, but the 2nd single, Please Please Me, is generally regarded as being a no.1 as it reached this position in the Melody Maker chart which was considered the more influential chart of the day. This would give them 18 UK number ones.
Just for the record the others that didn't reach no.1 were...Love Me Do (17), Strawberry Fields Forever/Penny Lane (2), Something (4) and Let It Be (2).
The '1' CD released a few years ago collects their no.1s from both the UK and USA, hence songs such as Eight Days A Week which was not a single in the UK.
