Why in islam is it the womans responsability to hide themselves from men?

why cant muslim men submit themselves to disciplne & control THEMSELVES if they see a womans face or hair those black robe got to be hot in 100+ degree temps i wonder if alot die from heat stroke

Both men and women have to dress in modesty, and for the women to hide our beauty and preserve it for our husbands and families is actually a beautiful thing to me. The men, too, have to lower their gaze and cover themselves properly. It doesnt go just one way. Modesty is a big part of Islam, because pride and vanity are not good and are distracting toward righteousness. Even Jesus-pbuh- said "it is better for you to gouge out your eye then to look at a woman in lust"--
Women in our society are not critiqued by how thin they are, how big their breasts are, if they look the part-- if they have the most beautiful figure-
We are judged by our good actions, our piety and our hearts and personalities, as it should be.
So many cultures waste their entire lives trying to look the youngest, be the thinnest, and fight to the finish to be the most beautiful on the Out side. For Muslim women, as long as our husbands find us beautiful- then we dont really care. At home, we wear make up and jewlery, we wear nice shoes and parfume and look our best-- we just dont do it for everyone-

As a Western woman I too feel the same, but that is our point of view. Imagine this - why do Western women have to starve and reveal themselves in order to be found beautiful? Why isn't it the responsibility of a man to see our inner beauty, talents and worth?
muslim women are now wearing the veil in ever increasing numbers due to western women airing these types of comments, they have naturalised the wearing of the veil into power and independence and freedoom from judgement. Aren't these wonderful things? this of course is not to lessen the fight of women who truly are oppresssed by this practice. All I can say is let them if they want to, and let them if they don't.

And yes, men alone are to blame for their inability to control themselves, and quite rightly that you do ask this question aside from the socio/cultural aspects I have pointed out.
