I noticed this a couple of weeks back now, everytime something happens (or for no reason at all) the characters reach for a bottle of brandy, whiskey, vodka, etc

Surely this isn't making a good impression on all the youngsters who watch the shows?

btw

I am aware that it is a fact of life,
it's just that these shows are watched by millions of people e.g. Eastenders, many of whom are very easily led and want to be like their favourite characters, I know this is sad but it wouldn't hurt anyone to tone it down a bit, would it?

Most characters seem to have no other coping mechanism other than alcohol, and this is most definitely not the case in real life.

Alcohol can be a normal part of a healthy life. There's no reason to pretend that adults never have a drink, even for no reason at all. And anyway, our culture doesn't exist for the exclusive benefit of children. We shouldn't have to dumb down / sanitize everything we watch or read "just in case."

I hate to say this as I know you're not going to like my answer. BUT Alcohol IS a FACT of life. It happens EVERY SINGLE DAY AND NIGHT. IT IS the PARENTS responsibility to bring their children up and this is to make them aware of SEX, DRUGS, ALCOHOL, and so many other things that it isn't even close to being funny. OH this DOES include what they CAN or CAN'T watch on TV. IT is time for PARENTS to step up and BE a PARENT. NOT the government by banning things they don't want kids exposed to.

So at Christmas parties shall we leave all the teenagers in a different room while the adults drink alcohol?the problem isn't anything to do with alcohol on TV ,it is peer pressure and it isn't a new thing,my parents drank when they were teenagers and there wasn't a problem back then, you see his tonyness and the stupid government along with the stupid health and safety do gooders are making us think that we have a problem.

I only see alcohol commercials on the FX channel. It seems as if they have a lot, more than any other types of ads. I always wonder when watching that channel if it is the only one who plays alcohol ads, therefore all the liqueur companies advertises on that channel. I bet the pay a lot to run them as well.

yes they are showing too much of it, and no, they are definitely giving the youngsters a really "good" impression of alchohol and even drugs.

it's really contradictory so see these shows on tv showing young viewers alchohol scenes, when parents at home tell their "soon-to-get-out-of-hand" teens time and time again about the harmful effects of drugs and alchohol.

it's really sad to see that so many teens are giving alchohol a go beacuse of how the tv promotes it. alchohol not only harms our bodies, but also the people around us.

Yes. If i played the drinking game while watching telly, I'd be dead in 2 days. You know the one - match tv drink for drink.
