South Africa has a population of around 44 000 000. 75% of them are black.
Each day, around 250 (mostly black) babies are born HIV positive.
By the end of 2005, 18.8% of adults (15-49) were HIV positive, and by the end of that year around 320 000 (mostly black) people dropped dead From AIDS.
By 2010, it's estimated that AIDS deaths will be around the 6 million mark.
An interesting statistic in South Africa is that three times as many people that attend weddings attend funerals.
The government's response?
Putting a Marxist witchdoctor in charge of the country's health, who swears that beetroot, garlic and vitamins are the answer. Silly me, I thought that garlic was only useful as a deterrent against vampires.
A president that (when sober) publicly refutes the correlation between HIV and AIDS, whilst he spends millions of rand to build a wall around his property.

A government that's happy to loot taxpayer funds whilst the country's health system has deterioted to such an extent that one has to bring your own bedding to hospitals, at the same time that urgently needed doctors and nurses are leaving the country in their thousands because of the government's racist employment policies.
They're white, you see.
Such a sad irony - the Marxist terrorists tht worked so hard to seize the country are being cut down by their own negligence, idiocy and downright savagery. Mandelas own son died of AIDS, for God's sake.
What the former SADF couldn't do, nature is finishing for them.

Sweet Angel - hold on a second there, honey, no one said anything about wanting to rid South Africa of black people, the vast majority of whom are decent, hard-working folks, I simply quoted statistics and pointed out the sad irony surrounding those statistics.

Innocentia - if my questions are boring and all look the same, don't answer them. Most of what you reply with is unintelligible, anyway. Thank God for BEE, or you'd never have a job.
My stake in that hellhole? I have a sister and invalid mother that I support to the tune of hundreds of $ a month.
Thank God for that exchange rate.
Interesting note - I flew my dad out here in 2001, he couldn't believe that he could walk the streets at night, eat at sidewalk cafes and explore this great city without fear, something you live with.
That, my dear, is the difference between a civilized society and how you live.

Innocentia - this is what your matric certificate is worth - it's 'I wouldn't have guessed', not 'I wouldn't have guesses'.
Like I said, mostly unintelligible, so say a silent 'thank you' for BEE.
No, I don't get my info from my family, we talk family stuff. I have my laptop in front of me, and every piece of info I need is a click away.
Try it.

Crikey - 'AIDS is hardly destroying the country'. Ha ha ha ha ha.
Out of a population of 44 000 000, almost 6 000 000 people are infected. That's about 7% of your population. 7%. With no end in sight. And don't forget, AIDS is the gift that keeps on giving.

Unfortunately Brad i agree with you, because of HIV and the following AIDS the whole of Africa will be at least half a population short.
A bit like the black plague did to England a while back now.
Took out half the population before the remaining folk found the strength to go forward.
So will Africa

Looking at the way AIDS was dealt with in the country one can only assume that one of two things happened.
1) Those in power are absolute morons and whenever they open their mouths they are actually telling us that they really don't understand one thing on their job description and that someone should please give them an easier job.
2) They had come to the conclusion that the only way for them to keep on milking the country would be to reduce the population somewhat and the appearance of incompetence was used.
Personally I think there is a 99.99% chance that option one is what is going on and that option two is simply used to make people think there are actually brains in the government with some form of strategical cognition.
Which brings me back to your question about whether it is the great equalizer. Considering that the unchallenged spread of HIV was caused mostly by stupidity on the side of the governement I don't think it can be called an equalizer. More like stupidity tax which will soon be rectified because one thing Africa can do well is breed.

And these facts that we're already aware of, have exactly what to do with a New Yorker miles away from South Africa?
Thank you for pointing out all of our flaws, we know... we're hoping for change and some light at the end of the tunnel... meanwhile, why dont you get a hobby out there, or is New York that boring?
You shouldnt worry Brad... non of this stuff affects you. How your tax money is being used (you beef that out with Bush), not a cent of it comes here to pay Beetroot ministers and what not.
All you are is a dark cloud over South Africa...
When Fallen talked of over throwing the government, you were so quiet...why? coz we were finally standing together and not fighting... and that makes you miserable right? When South Africans here are gloomy and at each others throats while you sit there kissing Bush's @ss for the many thanks of being in his America...
Yes, South Africa has problems...so what!? Your "armchair critic", critique isnt really solving anything is it? your Bush is giving you safety, security, health- basicaly Utopia. So why are you still looking over your shoulder at RSA? you've found a better life, focus on it... Let us suffer here without having to hear you echo facts useless to you.
By the way, have you nothing else better to post? Your questions all look the same... (seems like major boredom)
*edit* - more blah, blah, blah...so thats where you get your info from? Your family here? Well, if I was in New York I'd either take the family with or stop being so negative and hope my families surroundings change so they live a better life. You sure fooled me... I wouldnt have guesses you had loved ones here. You sound desperate to have RSA drown in a black hole. As for your comments on me ... I couldnt be bothered, bitter backlashing eases you for that moment yes... but does absolutely nothing for you at the end of the day. I have my Matric certificate, diplomas and a post I very well deserve... :op
Typo... so what!!!? You've had one (two) many yourself in past posts... even accepted a correction from me once, idiota!!! Ha!!! You're such a riot dude...! (",)

I tend to think AIDS might be the great equalizer in SA.
No doubt it's become a problem disease for all races, but let's face it there are a lot more Black people out there effected by it. It might be due to a lack of proper education, who knows, but the fact remains that about 90% of people dying from AIDS are black.
Another factor to take into consideration is the fact that most deaths(from AIDS) are documented as TB, or other minor diseases.
So, just how accurate are AIDS statistics?

specific, its on no account a waste to income a language. nearly all of whites talk the two English and Afrikaans - some extra appropriate than others of path. till those days a bypass in the two languages have been required to graduate from extreme college. The "chop up" between white English and Afrikaans mom tongue audio gadget is extra or less 60/40 ordinary yet there is important version geographically, socially and by employing financial sector. The "aspirational" language is English. All colleges supply it. even inspite of the indisputable fact that the matriculation standards specify "any 2" of SA's 11 valid languages, English is unavoidably chosen as one in each and every of them. meanwhile the form of faculties offering Afrikaans as a undertaking are declining as Afrikaans medium colleges (as nicely as faculties and universities) are positioned below huge stress to introduce different languages. between black South Africans there is an extremely stable shift far flung from Afrikaans in direction of English as a 2d (even third, fourth or 5th) language. This shift began interior the 1970's yet grow to be "in the back of schedule" by employing the choose to comprehend the "bosses" below Apartheid. It grew to grow to be stigmatised using fact the "language of the opressor". With the Afrikaner's loss of political hegemony the choose to comprehend the language for political purposes has dissapeared, for this reason the shift in direction of English.

What precisely do you mean when you state: "what used to be South Africa"?
AIDS is a huge problem down here, but it's hardly destroyed the whole country. South Africa is at the forefront of the medical battle against HIV, despite the government and health department's failings.
This nation will once again stand up to the challenges that face it, be it crime, disease, or politics, and will emerge the stronger for it.

As asked this is an unintelligible question. Perhaps a better line of investigation would be to examine the sources and methods of collection for the statistics you cite.

Brad in certain ways i agree with you, the government could have put some one with more knowledge in as the minister of health and yes more money should be given towards finding a cure for aids.
but no aids is not a "great equalizer". i bet you don't know anyone close to you that had or has aids!
my father got aids from a blood transfusion in 1982 and in 1996 my father passed away. a slow and painfuller death penalty that he received, aids is not a joke i do not wish even my worst enemies to get aids, its a horrible disease that needs to be stop.
look i am not looking for sympathy but ignorance regarding aids and people that actually think of it as a weapon to rid our country from blacks just p*$$ me off
brad i am sorry for getting a bit upset it just that i carry this close to my heart and some people in general do tend to say things like that, sorry if i stepped on your toe
