List your personal skills i.e. good communicator, good people skills, politeness, reliable, friendly personality, work well on own and in team, ability to use your initiative (you have proved that by writing the letter but its good to point it out). Really sell yourself. But don't lie! If you get asked something at interview that you wrote in your letter that was a lie, they will suss you out! Also keep a copy of your letter to refer to when you get your interview. Good luck

The key points an employer will be looking for are
(1)whether you will work whatever hours they want somebody to work, which may include unsocial hours like weekends or possibly even also night shifts, dependent on job
(2) that You will not habitually take "sickies", such as when there is a good football match on TV.
(3) that You can be relied on to get to workplace on time, and will not be habitually late due inability to get out of bed in the morning or some similar failing
(4) in most jobs, that You can speak, understand and write in good English and spell properly
(5) That You are not "lazy" like most recent school leavers are reputed to be, and you are trustworthy, honest and reliable by nature.
(6) That You accept discipline and do what you are told intelligently without problem, as well as being able to use your initiative if and when required, and work without supervision. if and when required.
(7) that you will not create a bad impression by being slovenly or untidy in your appearance or habits
Successfully getting these sorts of things across could well be the criterion as to whether you get the job or get rejected. But particular requirements of particular employers may always vary, dependent on what the job involves.

Get together a cv of all your qualifications & any hobbies or interest you enjoy as well as any voluntary work, this could even be helping out in school, you need to highlight the fact you are enthusiastic & willing to learn, explain you want to be given the chance to learn retail & feel with your good qualifications you would be an asset.
If you go on the net there are some very good sites that will help you draft an impressive cover letter.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!

Try to do some research on the shops you are interested in. Include it in your letter, include hobbies etc which may have some relevant to the post you are applying for.
